Delta Police Intensifies Security in Banks Ahead of Yuletide
The Delta State Police Command has directed banks across the state to tighten security measures to prevent criminal activities during the forthcoming “ember” months.
The directive was issued on Tuesday in Asaba by the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, during a strategic security meeting with members of the Bankers’ Forum in the state.
Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the commissioner emphasized the importance of installing advanced and functional CCTV cameras in banking premises to strengthen surveillance and deter crime.
DCP Adejobi said, “We are aware that the ember months historically see a surge in population and economic activities, which may attract criminal elements. It is therefore critical for banks to review their security protocols and ensure their premises are properly monitored.”
He added that the command remains committed to proactive measures aimed at ensuring a safe and crime-free environment during the yuletide season.
Speaking on behalf of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, the chief security officer of the Delta State branch, commended the police for the initiative. She noted that cash is not released to banks that do not have adequate police escorts.
The meeting also included the chief security officer of the CBN Asaba branch and 39 bank heads from across the state.
