Tambuwal Politically Spent, Left No Legacy Sokoto APC Chair

Sokoto State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, yesterday declared that former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has been “politically retired,” insisting that his eight-year administration left behind no tangible legacy.

Achida, in a statement in Sokoto, described Tambuwal’s tenure as “an era of stagnation and asset stripping,” alleging that the former governor deliberately refused to hand over to Governor Ahmed Aliyu in 2023 to avoid being recorded as leaving “a state riddled with abandoned projects.”

He accused Tambuwal of plotting to frustrate the present administration but noted that Governor Aliyu had remained focused on prudent financial management and visible infrastructural projects without resorting to borrowing.

“Since Aliyu assumed office, workers’ salaries are paid before the 21st of every month, the new minimum wage has been implemented, and major projects are ongoing all without loans. He is committed to the welfare of the people, unlike his predecessor, who looted their resources,” Achida said.

On Tambuwal’s political future, the APC chairman argued that the former governor lacked an independent base, having relied on political godfathers, particularly Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, to rise to prominence.

He added: “No Abuja alliance, no media propaganda, no recycled coalition can revive a politician whose only legacy is propaganda and a collapsed state. Tambuwal will not contest the next governorship or senatorial election. He is politically retired.”

Tambuwal, a senator elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is part of a coalition that has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections. He was recently grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his time as governor but has since resumed political rallies in Sokoto, drawing large crowds.

The former governor has also been visited by ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is tipped to fly the ADC presidential flag in 2027.

Attempts to reach Tambuwal for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
