NSCDC vows to restore peace in Zamfara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, has pledged to intensify efforts towards ending insecurity and restoring lasting peace across the state.

State Commandant of the Corps, Sani Mustafa, made the pledge in Gusau on Monday while addressing officers and men during the commemoration of the International Day of Peace.

Mustafa noted that despite prevailing security challenges, Zamfara would soon witness improved stability with the support of relevant stakeholders.

“All over the world today, we celebrate peace. We thank the Almighty God for the relative peace we enjoy despite global challenges and those peculiar to Zamfara State,” he said.

He recalled that the United Nations General Assembly declared the International Day of Peace in 2001 to strengthen ideals of peace through 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire, stressing that this year’s theme, ‘Act now for a peaceful world’, is apt for Nigeria.

He listed banditry in the Northwest, Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast, militancy in the South-South, and kidnapping across the country as major threats undermining peace.

“Zamfara State is not left out of these ugly situations. On behalf of the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, I call on all stakeholders to work out modalities to restore peace in Zamfara. God willing, peace will soon return,” he assured.

The commandant also reaffirmed the Corps’ support for Governor Dauda Lawal’s peace initiatives, urging traditional rulers, youths, clerics, herders and farmers to embrace dialogue and tolerance.

“I call on all agitating groups causing breaches of peace and insecurity to eschew bitterness, be objective and speak out on how best peace can be achieved in Zamfara and Nigeria at large,” Mustafa said.
