NiMet, in its weather outlook released in Abuja, predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region on Sunday, with chances of early morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba and Adamawa states.
The agency said thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains were expected over most parts of the North later in the afternoon or evening.
For the North Central region, NiMet forecast sunny skies with patches of clouds and chances of early morning thunderstorms, with light rains over parts of Kwara, Niger, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory.
It added that thunderstorms with moderate rains were expected across most parts of the region later in the day.
Over the southern region, the agency predicted cloudy skies with chances of light rains over parts of Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states during the morning hours.
It forecast moderate rains over parts of Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states later in the day.
For Monday, NiMet forecast sunny skies with patches of clouds over the northern region, with prospects of thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states during the morning hours.
It said thunderstorms with moderate rains were expected over parts of Yobe, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa states later in the afternoon or evening.
The North Central region is expected to experience cloudy skies with spells of sunshine, with chances of morning thunderstorms and moderate rains over parts of Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa and the FCT.
NiMet predicted sunny skies with a few patches of clouds over most parts of the region later in the day.
In the South, the agency forecast cloudy skies with prospects of light rains over most parts of the South-West during the morning hours, while moderate rains are expected over parts of the South-South and South-East later in the day.
For Tuesday, NiMet anticipated sunny skies over the northern region with a few patches of clouds during the morning hours.
It forecast thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rains over parts of Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna and the North-East later in the day.
The agency also predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds over the North Central region during the morning hours, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains across most parts of the region in the afternoon or evening.
Over the southern region, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions with chances of light rains over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River during the morning hours, followed by moderate rains across the region later in the day.
NiMet warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms in areas where rainfall is expected.
It advised residents to take necessary precautions, including securing loose objects to prevent accidents.
The agency also advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and urged residents to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets and stay away from tall trees to avoid falling branches.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
