Oyo to Deploy 2,000 Security Operatives for Ladoja’s Coronation
Tinubu, Atiku, top dignitaries expected at historic event
The Oyo State Government has concluded plans to deploy no fewer than 2,000 security personnel to ensure a hitch-free coronation of Senator Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee, Chief Bayo Oyero, disclosed this at a press briefing held at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, yesterday.
He said the deployment will include operatives of the Nigeria Police, Civil Defence Corps, and Amotekun, stressing that the measure was necessary given the calibre of guests expected at the weeklong ceremony.
Among dignitaries to grace the occasion are President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, members of the National Assembly, governors, traditional rulers, and captains of industry.
Oyero described the coronation as more than a local affair, noting that it represents Yoruba heritage, Nigerian culture, and African identity.
“This event is not just Ibadan’s; it is a celebration of the resilience and cultural pride of our people,” he said.
He commended Governor Seyi Makinde for appointing a non-government official to chair the planning committee, adding that the governor has given full support to the programme.
According to him, the line-up of activities includes:
Tuesday, Sept 23: Cultural fiesta at Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku.
Wednesday, Sept 24: Coronation lecture by Prof. Toyin Falola at the University of Ibadan.
Thursday, Sept 25: Praise and worship concert at the Civic Centre, Idi-Ape, coinciding with Oba Ladoja’s 81st birthday.
Friday, Sept 26: Grand coronation at Mapo Hall grounds.
Sunday, Sept 28: Thanksgiving service at the Catholic Cathedral, Oke Padre.
Friday, Oct 3: Jumat service at Ojaba Central Mosque to round off the celebrations.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, announced that the events will be broadcast live on television, radio, and online platforms to enable Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to participate.
He also revealed that Ibadan’s vibrant music scene will be showcased, with Fuji stars Saheed Osupa, Taye Currency, and other artistes billed to perform.
Other officials present at the briefing included the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, CCII President-General, Barrister Niyi Ajewole, and members of the planning committee.
