Osun NLC Commends NULGE Members, Urges Vigilance Against Political Intrigue

The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has hailed members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for their resilience in safeguarding workers’ rights, urging them to remain steadfast amid political interference in the state’s local government system.

In a solidarity letter signed by Comrade Christopher Arapasopo, Chairman of the Osun NLC, the congress praised NULGE members for their compliance with directives to withdraw services earlier this year, noting that the action aligned with International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards on the right to a safe and healthy working environment.

“The Congress salutes your doggedness over this period and encourages you not to be weary as we navigate through these turbulent waves together. We stand in solidarity with you all,” the statement said.

The NLC also cautioned workers to ignore “political shenanigans” and social media propaganda aimed at discrediting organised labour leadership. According to the letter, such activities are engineered by individuals with vested interests to create confusion and unrest among local government staff.

Comrade Arapasopo commended the state government under Governor Ademola Adeleke for its continued payment of salaries to all NULGE members, despite alleged withholding of local government funds by the Federal Government. “The deliberate withholding of statutory Osun Local Government allocations, orchestrated by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation in collusion with the Minister of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria, constitutes a blatant violation of the Constitution and court rulings,” the NLC chairman said.

The congress reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights of workers and the masses, warning that attempts to intimidate or silence labour would not succeed. “We stand firm in our resolve to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law in our beloved state as we remain unbowed, unshaken and unbroken,” Arapasopo added.
