149 inmates regain freedom as Ogun CJ launches virtual courts
Ogun State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, yesterday announced the release of 149 inmates from correctional centres across the state as part of ongoing jail delivery exercises to decongest the facilities.
She made this known at a merit award and retirement ceremony held at the Judiciary Complex, Abeokuta, to usher in the 2025/2026 legal year.
Justice Dipeolu said the past legal year was marked by resilience and innovation, with the judiciary recording significant strides despite challenges.
Among the achievements, she listed the appointment of three High Court judges, 15 judicial research officers, the installation of verbatim recording systems in six Abeokuta courts, and the setting up of virtual courts in Abeokuta, Sagamu, Idi-Oke, Ojodu Abiodun, Ota, and Ifo divisions.
She added that 22 laptops were distributed to magistrates and judicial research officers, a health insurance plan was introduced for judicial officers, while new High and Magistrate courts were commissioned in Ojodu Abiodun.
> “Our strides, achieved through collective effort, speak volumes,” the CJ said. “We have not only endured; we have advanced.”
The Chief Judge also honoured 23 awardees, including judicial officers, staff, and retirees, praising their service and legacy.
