Imo govt assures safe rescue of abducted ex-lawmaker
The Imo State Government has reassured the public of its determination to secure the safe release of Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, a former chairman of Okigwe Local Government Area and ex-member of the Imo State House of Assembly, who was abducted last week.
The government, in a statement issued yesterday by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, condemned what it described as a “brazen and lawless” act.
It disclosed that all relevant security agencies have been fully mobilised and necessary mechanisms activated to ensure Ogbu’s prompt and safe return.
Emelumba cautioned politicians against making political capital out of the incident, saying such utterances trivialise the victim’s ordeal and could further endanger his life.
“The politicisation of a matter involving the life of a husband, father, and fellow citizen is, to say the least, deeply unconscionable,” the statement read.
The commissioner stressed that the state government remains unwavering in its commitment to the protection of lives and property and will continue to work with security operatives to safeguard Imo residents.
