Economic pain temporary, gains ahead — Akpabio, Akume
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, have urged Nigerians to endure the current hardship, assuring that the reforms of the Tinubu administration will soon yield economic prosperity.
Akpabio, speaking at the Second Plenary Meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, acknowledged the difficulties occasioned by fuel subsidy removal and naira devaluation but appealed for patience.
He likened nation-building to the construction of a cathedral, stressing that progress requires time, sacrifice and collective resolve.
> “Do not despair when the winds blow strong or the scaffolding shakes. A nation is not raised overnight but stone by stone, prayer by prayer, hand by hand,” the Senate President said.
Akume, who represented President Bola Tinubu, said the government is taking bold steps to stabilise the economy, attract investment and strengthen democratic institutions.
> “This administration came into office with a firm commitment to renew hope. Nobody will be left behind,” he said.
Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, commended the Catholic Church for championing justice and democracy worldwide. He listed poverty alleviation initiatives of his government and called for the Church’s support in delivering dividends of democracy.
The event drew the Apostolic Nuncio and Papal representative, Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, bishops across the country, lawmakers, politicians and worshippers.
