OYSCATECH Deputy Registrar, Onike Rahaman, Dies After Delivering Lecture

The Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs, Alhaji Onike Rahaman.

Rahaman was said to have taken ill shortly after delivering a lecture on campus on Thursday, September 11, 2025. He was rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel later confirmed him dead.

In a condolence message signed by the institution’s Registrar, Mr. R.F.A. Adeniji, the deceased was described as a diligent administrator who served the college with distinction. Rector of OYSCATECH, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi, also paid tribute, describing him as a prolific writer, respected activist, and resourceful administrator whose contributions to education and student welfare will remain indelible.

Rahaman joined the services of OYSCATECH in 2008 as an Administrative Officer II and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Registrar. He also represented the congregation on the Governing Council of the institution. An alumnus of Saint Andrew’s College of Education, Oyo, the University of Ibadan, and Olivet High School, Oyo, he was widely admired for his humility, scholarship, and commitment to community development.

Tributes have poured in from across the state, with students, youths, and politicians mourning his passing. Many described him as a man of the people who blended scholarship with activism. Others recalled his role in advocating for the creation of a new Oyo State with Ibadan as its administrative capital.

In his tribute, Mogaji Afolabi Ademola Adesina of Oyo Alaafin called the late administrator “the very definition of a public conscience.” He recalled how Rahaman’s mentorship, writings, and public engagements shaped lives, stressing that his death leaves a vacuum difficult to fill.

He urged institutions and communities touched by Rahaman’s work to immortalise his legacy through memorial lectures, scholarships, and mentorship programmes.

According to his family, Rahaman’s remains will be laid to rest today, Friday, September 12, in Oyo town, with the funeral procession leaving Igboora at 7:00 a.m.

The management, staff, and students of OYSCATECH prayed that Almighty Allah grant him Aljanah Firdaus, remembering him for his dedication, humility, and lifelong service to humanity.
