Ekiti APC leaders back Tinubu, Oyebanji for second term
Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State have reaffirmed their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The endorsement came yesterday at a meeting held at the Iyin-Ekiti country home of the late General Adeyinka Adebayo.
In attendance were two former governors of the state, Otunba Niyi Adebayo and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Governor Oyebanji, his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, National and State Assembly members, local government chairmen, and other party chieftains.
The motion for Tinubu’s reaffirmation was moved by Senate Leader Bamidele and seconded by Rep. Olusola Fatoba (Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I). The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Aribasoye, moved the motion endorsing Oyebanji for a second term, which was seconded by Chief Whip Bose Olowookere. Both motions scaled through a unanimous voice vote.
Former governors Adebayo and Fayemi urged members to avoid complacency ahead of the governorship poll, stressing unity and grassroots mobilisation to ensure victory at all levels. Fayemi commended Oyebanji’s performance, assuring of his loyalty to the party and commitment to its success.
He expressed optimism that Oyebanji would “break the one-term jinx” and sustain the tradition of continuity in the state.
Senate Leader Bamidele, speaking for National Assembly members, promised full support for Oyebanji’s re-election.
Governor Oyebanji thanked party members for their solidarity and stressed inclusivity in his administration. He described the October 17 APC primary as the launch pad for the 2026 governorship and 2027 presidential elections.
“We are one family. Let everyone pursue their aspirations without intimidation. After the primaries, we will work together for victory in the general election,” he said.
APC State Chairman, Paul Omotosho’s successor, Barr. Olusola Elesin, said the meeting was convened to review preparations for the primaries and strengthen party unity. He praised Oyebanji’s achievements, saying they had boosted the party’s chances in the forthcoming poll.
