NABTEB Records Improved Performance in 2025 NBC/NTC Examinations

 

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the 2025 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, showing an improvement in candidates’ performance, particularly in Mathematics.

 

Announcing the results in Abuja on Thursday, NABTEB’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, stated that 92,875 candidates registered for the exams across 1,892 centres nationwide. This represents a 37.08 per cent increase in registration compared to 2024, while the number of examination centres increased by 10.77 per cent.

 

Candidates sat for 16 Engineering Trades, seven Construction Trades, nine Miscellaneous Trades, four Business Trades, and 16 General Education subjects. Of the 89,621 candidates whose results were released, 61,104, representing 68.18 per cent, obtained five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics. Additionally, 74,633 candidates, or 83.28 per cent, scored five credits or more with or without English and Mathematics.

 

Dr. Mohammed noted that while more candidates passed Mathematics, fewer passed English compared to last year’s results. He added that 93.10 per cent of candidates obtained pass grades in English Language, while 94.60 per cent passed Mathematics.

 

On examination malpractice, the NABTEB chief said 435 candidates were involved in 516 cases, a slight decrease compared to 349 candidates in 524 cases recorded in 2024.

 

Registration has already commenced for the 2025 November/December NBC/NTC and Advanced NBC/NTC (ANBC/ANTC) examinations. Prospective candidates can access guidelines via the NABTEB portal or at any State or Zonal Office.

 

Dr. Mohammed emphasized the critical role of vocational and technical education in national development. “In today’s 21st-century world, the need for comprehensive Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is highly crucial,” he said.

 

Established by Decree No. 70 of 1993, NABTEB took over technical and business examinations previously administered by foreign bodies such as RSA, City & Guilds, and WAEC, providing government-controlled, nationally relevant certification.

 

The NBC/NTC examinations are integral to Nigeria’s TVET framework, designed to equip learners with practical, employable skills in trades and vocational fields.

 

In the 2024 June/July NBC/NTC exams, 67,751 candidates sat for the exams, with 44,000 (65.34%) obtaining five credits including English and Mathematics, and 62,235 (92.42%) earning five credits or more with or without English and Mathematics.
