Customs Service Provides Update on Ongoing Recruitment Exercise
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has provided an update on its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise, which began with an official advertisement in national dailies on 27 December 2024. The Service said the exercise is aimed at strengthening its manpower capacity and improving service delivery.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, 3,927 vacancies were declared across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres.
He noted that the recruitment drive attracted 573,523 applications in the first phase, out of which 286,697 candidates were shortlisted to proceed to the second stage of the process.
The second stage, he explained, will be an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled to hold between 14 and 21 September 2025. The NCS emphasised that the CBT will be conducted virtually to ensure transparency and equal access for all candidates.
Maiwada stated that candidates may take the test from any location of their choice, provided they have reliable internet connectivity. However, the test must be attempted on a laptop or desktop computer fitted with a webcam, as the application is not mobile-enabled. A facial recognition process will also be conducted before login, and candidates are advised to maintain a neat appearance to avoid verification issues.
The Service further warned that the CBT platform is sensitive to noise and movement. “Candidates are expected to remain focused throughout the duration of the test. Any form of distraction, whispering, or window-switching will be flagged as malpractice and may result in disqualification,” the statement said.
To familiarise candidates with the process, the NCS has introduced a mandatory pre-test exercise, which will take place two days before the main CBT. Shortlisted applicants will receive two separate links – one for the pre-test and the other for the main examination. Those applying for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will also sit for an additional CBT in the next phase, unlike their counterparts in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
Reassuring applicants and the general public, the Service stressed that the recruitment process remains transparent and merit-based. “Successful candidates will be duly informed of subsequent stages through the Service’s verified communication channels. We urge applicants to strictly adhere to the guidelines and disregard unofficial sources, as the Service will not request payment or conduct recruitment through social media platforms,” Maiwada added.
