Borno Attacks: Ndume Condemns Killing of 63, Calls for Enhanced Security

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) has expressed shock and condemnation over the killing of 63 people, including soldiers, immigration officers, and civilians, in fresh Boko Haram attacks across Borno State.

The lawmaker disclosed that last Friday’s attack on Darajamal village in Bama Local Government Area claimed the lives of five soldiers and 58 civilians. Several women and girls were also reportedly abducted during the raid.

Two immigration officers were killed in a separate assault in Monguno Local Government Area on Thursday, Ndume added.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, with support from the Air Component, engaged the attackers in a counteroffensive, reportedly neutralising over 30 insurgents.

In a statement released on Sunday, Ndume sympathised with the families of the victims and commended the gallantry of troops. He, however, described the recurring attacks across Borno South, North, and Central as deeply worrying.

The senator urged the Federal Government to beef up security in the North-East through the deployment of drones, attack helicopters, modern equipment, and arms. He also advocated for the activation of armed community defence groups to complement military operations, noting that the efforts of CJTF, hunters, and vigilantes were limited.

Ndume appealed to residents to cooperate fully with security agencies, particularly by sharing intelligence on terrorist movements.
