Police Arrest Three Over Abduction of Farmer’s Wife in Kwara, Recover #2.7m Ransom

Police Arrest Three Over Abduction of Farmer’s Wife in Kwara, Recover ₦2.7m Ransom

The Kwara State Police Command yesterday paraded three suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of a housewife, Mrs. Yusuf Suliat, in Okuta, Baruten Local Government Area of the state.

Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this at the command headquarters in Ilorin, saying the arrests followed a joint operation by police operatives and local vigilantes.

The suspects, identified as Shehu Mohammed, Ahmadu Aliyu of Tparuu village, and Saidu Yakubu of Shiya village, were alleged members of a gang that stormed the residence of Mr. Yusuf Adamu in Shiya on August 15 at about 11:14 p.m. and abducted his wife at gunpoint.

According to Ojo, the victim was released on August 20 after the family reportedly paid ₦10 million ransom. A follow-up operation, he said, led to a gun duel between the gang and security operatives, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects while others escaped.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects included ₦2.7 million cash believed to be part of the ransom, two expended AK-47 shells and one live ammunition.

“These findings further link the suspects to the crime. Our operatives are on the trail of other fleeing members of the gang. Once investigation is concluded, the arrested suspects will be charged to court,” the CP said.

The police reiterated commitment to sustaining the clampdown on criminal elements threatening peace and security across the state.
