INEC to Issue Certificates of Return to Newly Elected Lawmakers August 21–22

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced dates for the presentation of Certificates of Return to winners of the recently concluded National and State Assembly elections.

According to a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, the ceremony for National Assembly members will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, starting at 3:00 p.m.

Lawmakers expected to receive their certificates include Senators-elect for Anambra South and Edo Central, as well as members-elect of the House of Representatives from Ovie North East and Ovie South West (Edo State), Babura/Garki (Jigawa State), Chikun/Kajuru (Kaduna State), Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North (Ogun State), and Ibadan North (Oyo State).

For State Assembly members, Certificates of Return will be presented by Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in the respective states on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

The constituencies where lawmakers will collect their certificates include Ganye (Adamawa State), Onitsha North I (Anambra State), Basawa and Zaria/Kewaye (Kaduna State), Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa (Kano State), Okura (Kogi State), Munya (Niger State), and Karim Lamido I (Taraba State).

INEC assured Nigerians of its continued transparency and pledged to keep the public updated on all election-related activities.
