Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas to Defect to APC

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has announced plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and officially join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

The governor made the revelation while inspecting the Jolly Nyame Stadium, the venue slated for his defection ceremony. According to Kefas, the move is aimed at advancing the interests and future of Taraba residents, rather than personal political gain.

Speaking to Channels TV, Kefas said, “On the 19th of November, I will officially transition from PDP to APC. This movement is about the destiny of the people of Taraba, and we are expecting many visitors for the ceremony.” He, however, declined to comment on any conditions set by the APC, stating that further details would be shared during his address at the event.

The governor’s decision has received overwhelming support from members of his state executive council. Muslim Aruwa, Commissioner for Science and Technology, affirmed, “The Governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we move with him — be it APC, SDP, or ADC. This alignment with the Federal Government is for the good of all citizens, not for personal gain. It is about bringing development to the state.”

Aruwa further emphasized that the defection is not solely about the governor but is intended to benefit the entire population of Taraba State. “We are with him 100 percent,” he added.
