NSCDC warns Kanu protesters against vandalism in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has cautioned groups planning rallies in Abuja today over the detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, against any attempt to destroy public or private assets.
FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu, who addressed reporters yesterday in Abuja, said the Corps would enforce compliance with subsisting court orders and would not allow any breach of peace or vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI).
Separate groups are mobilising for and against the release of Kanu.
Odumosu said officers drawn from NSCDC special forces have been deployed across the territory to secure key installations and residents before, during and after the rallies.
“We will not condone theft, vandalism or destruction of facilities in the name of protest,” he said.
He directed personnel to act with restraint by avoiding accidental discharge, harassment or intimidation, and to apply non-kinetic crowd-control measures.
Odumosu warned those plotting to hijack the rallies for criminal ends to desist, noting that anyone caught would be arrested and prosecuted in line with extant laws.
