Yakubu left without accounting for 2023 poll glitches, says Oditah

Yakubu left without accounting for 2023 poll glitches, says Oditah

Former Delta State governorship aspirant, Fidelis Oditah, has taken a swipe at the immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, for leaving office without explaining the glitches that marred the electronic transmission of results during the 2023 presidential election.

Oditah, who spoke on Arise Television yesterday, described Yakubu’s exit as “regrettable,” insisting that Nigerians deserved to know the cause of the failure that undermined the credibility of the poll.

“It is regrettable that Yakubu was allowed to go without telling Nigerians the glitches that prevented election results transmission in the 2023 presidential election,” Oditah said.

“He simply said there were glitches, and till today, he has left without telling us what these glitches were. He obviously felt unaccountable to anyone,” he added.

Yakubu, who completed his tenure earlier in the week, handed over to Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu as Acting Chairman of the Commission.

Oditah’s remarks came amid growing calls for greater transparency in the management of elections and a comprehensive review of the electoral process ahead of future polls.
