Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday warned that the Boko Haram insurgency has gradually become entrenched in the country’s daily existence, describing it as a “monster” that Nigerians must urgently confront .

Speaking in Abuja at the public presentation of a book titled Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd), Obasanjo lamented the devastating impact of terrorism on national life.

“Boko Haram is now virtually becoming part of our life. Should we accept that? If we should not accept it, what should we do? How much do we know—even from the other side? Have we been active enough? Have we been proactive enough?” Obasanjo asked.

The former president cautioned against complacency, insisting that Nigerians must not resign themselves to living with terrorism but instead begin asking the “necessary questions” to dismantle the insurgency that has plagued the country for over a decade.

Obasanjo, who wrote the foreword to Irabor’s book, commended the retired general for documenting his insider account of the counter-insurgency war, describing it as an act of courage and an important contribution to Nigeria’s history.

The book presentation was graced by dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, current and former service chiefs, ex-governors, clerics, and other stakeholders.
