Southeast Governors Engaging FG on Nnamdi Kanu’s Release — Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has revealed that governors of the South East are in discussions with the Federal Government over the possible release of the detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Otti made the disclosure during his monthly media briefing in Umuahia on Thursday, stressing that efforts to secure Kanu’s freedom are ongoing behind the scenes.

“The information and assurances regarding his release are not for public dissemination. As his governor, I am actively involved in ensuring his return. The South East governors are also participating in the discussions,” he said.

While addressing the IPOB leader’s situation, Otti also highlighted his administration’s commitment to improving security across Abia, especially during the ember months. He commended security agencies for maintaining relative peace but urged residents to remain vigilant.

“The state has enjoyed relative peace. I appreciate the efforts of our security agencies, the army, and officers who continue to work hard. However, as we enter the ember months, heightened security consciousness is necessary. Residents should report suspicious activities to aid our security strategies,” Otti said.

On education, the governor expressed concern over the vandalism of schools by some youths in the state. He announced plans to deploy four security personnel to each school to curb the menace.

Otti also provided updates on infrastructure projects, revealing that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate completed roads in Aba next Friday. “We are ready to commence the reconstruction of the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene federal road in the coming weeks. The President will also commission several other key routes in Aba,” he added.

Addressing protests by host communities over land compensation for the Abia Airport project, Otti acknowledged lapses and assured that corrective measures are being implemented.

“I discovered that some genuine landowners were omitted from the compensation list, and some protestors had incomplete documentation. The contractor also mistakenly accessed areas outside the acquisition plan. These issues have now been corrected,” he said.

Governor Otti concluded by highlighting his administration’s achievements across various sectors and assured residents that more developmental initiatives are underway.
