Over 100,000 ITF SUPA Trainees to Sit CIPMN Exams on Soft Skills

More than 100,000 trainees participating in the second phase of the Industrial Training Fund’s (ITF) Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) programme across Nigeria are set to undergo examinations on Wednesday.

The tests, organized by the Chartered Institute of Project Management of Nigeria (CIPMN), will assess participants on key soft skills modules of the SUPA curriculum, including project management, occupational health and safety, and professional ethics. These components are designed to equip artisans with the skills needed to meet international standards.

Speaking ahead of the examinations, ITF Director-General and Chief Executive, Dr. Afiz Oluwatoyin Ogun, reiterated the Fund’s commitment to training, certifying, and licensing Nigerian artisans with credentials recognized globally.

“Our mission is to develop an indigenous workforce capable of competing on the international stage,” Ogun said. “By providing internationally accredited certifications, we aim to reduce unemployment and empower our youth with marketable skills.”

He explained that the SUPA programme follows a three-tiered structure: the Foundation phase for basic skills assessment, SUPA I for soft skills development—which culminates in the upcoming CIPMN examinations—and SUPA II for advanced technical training. Trainees who successfully complete the programme receive certifications that validate their skills for employment, self-employment, or international placements.

Dr. Ogun further revealed that ITF has secured approval from City & Guilds London (UK) as one of its selected examination centres in Nigeria, and is in advanced discussions with ALBERK QA TECHNIC of Turkey and other international bodies to expand credential offerings.

“These internationally aligned certifications will enable Nigerian artisans to access opportunities abroad, leveraging our youthful population of over 70 million and generating foreign exchange for the country,” he added.

The DG also commended CIPMN Abuja for its enduring partnership in implementing the SUPA programme. “We are confident that the examinations they will oversee will meet the high standards expected,” he stated.

The SUPA programme continues to position Nigerian artisans for global competitiveness, bridging the gap between local craftsmanship and international best practices.
