Kano to councils: No project approval without location codes

The Kano State Government has declared that it will no longer approve project requests from local government councils unless they are accompanied by proper location codes.

The directive was announced by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Muhammad Tajuddeen Usman, during a public hearing on the 2026 budget proposal in Rano Local Government Area.

Usman explained that the measure became necessary to curb the frequent changes of projects and locations after approval, as well as to prevent cases of multiple submissions for the same project.

He also tasked local councils to intensify revenue generation efforts to complement federal allocations, stressing that sustainable development cannot be achieved without effective internal revenue collection.

The Chairman of Rano Local Government, Engr. Tukur Muhammad Wada, hailed the policy, saying it would enhance accountability and increase public participation in governance.

Wada assured residents that their inputs would be captured in the council’s 2026 budget.
