Osun Residents Groan as N50m Road Project Vanishes on Paper

Residents and commuters in Ikire and Odeyinka towns, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, are crying out over the deplorable condition of the road linking the two communities.

Despite a budgetary allocation of fifty million naira (₦50m) in the 2024 Federal Government budget for its rehabilitation, the road remains untouched.

Civic monitoring group, Tracka, in its latest findings, confirmed that the project was captured in the national budget but has not been executed.

“N₦50m was allocated for the rehabilitation of Ikire–Odeyinka rural road in Irewole LGA under the 2024 FG Budget. We tracked and report that this project has not been done. Residents told us how difficult it is to ply this road, especially when it rains. This provision is of high priority to them,” Tracka said in a statement.

The road, considered vital to the daily socio-economic activities of the area, has turned into a nightmare for motorists and pedestrians alike. Commuters complain of wasted hours, increased transport fares, and frequent vehicle breakdowns due to the poor state of the road.

Community members lamented that despite repeated appeals, government authorities have failed to respond, leaving them to suffer the consequences of an abandoned project.

They urged both the Federal Government and Osun State Government to probe the missing project and ensure immediate action to deliver the rehabilitation that was budgeted for.
