HYPERDEC Calls for EFCC Support in Tackling Corruption and Financial Crimes

The Hydro-Electric Power Producing Area Development Commission (HYPERDEC) has sought a strategic partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to combat corruption and other economic and financial crimes within its operations.

The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the newly-appointed HYPERDEC State Coordinator, AbdulHameed Yazid, and his team to the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

Yazid commended the EFCC for its “tremendous impact in the fight against corruption” and expressed the Commission’s interest in fostering a sustainable collaboration aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in its activities.

He stressed that HYPERDEC views collaboration with the EFCC as a necessity for achieving its mandate of promoting equitable and sustainable development for communities across Kaduna and other areas under its coverage, particularly those affected by dams and other hydro-electric power infrastructure.

Speaking during the visit, the Acting Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Assistant Commander Bawa Usman Kaltungo, applauded HYPERDEC’s initiative, describing the collaboration as mutually beneficial to both agencies and the public.

“No organisation is an island unto itself,” Kaltungo said, reiterating that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility. He urged the HYPERDEC team to ensure strict transparency and accountability, especially in the award of contracts and management of resources.

The visit marks a step towards closer cooperation between HYPERDEC and the EFCC, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting good governance, financial integrity, and sustainable development in hydro-electric power communities across the state.
