APC Governorship Race: Ex-Senator Hussein Eyes Osun 2026
Former Senator Mudashiru Hussein has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the 2026 Osun governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Ejigbo-born politician made the declaration on Tuesday at the APC state secretariat in Osogbo, following consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
Hussein, who represented Osun West in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, also served in the House of Representatives for Lagos’ Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency between 1999 and 2007. He has held positions as Federal Commissioner and Acting Secretary to the State Government in Osun.
Addressing his supporters, Hussein emphasized his experience and readiness to lead the state.
“As a member of the House of Representatives for eight years, a senator for four years, and having served as a Federal Commissioner and acting Secretary to the State Government in Osun, I have the experience needed to govern this state. APC is rooted in the federation and in Osun, so there is nothing to fear. We are taking over Osun in 2026,” he said.
Hussein also pledged to support the party’s eventual candidate if he is not chosen, stressing unity among the twelve aspirants vying for the ticket.
Osun APC chairman Tajudeen Lawal welcomed the growing interest in the governorship race, describing it as a reflection of APC’s strong position in the state. Other aspirants include Bola Oyebamiji, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Dotun Babayemi, Benedict Alabi, Akin Ogunbiyi, and Kunle Adegoke (SAN).
