Tinubu Dumps VP’s Digital Economy Adviser, Umunubo

President Bola Tinubu has sacked Fegho Umunubo, the Special Assistant to the President on Digital and Creative Economy in the Office of the Vice President.

The termination, announced on Monday by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, takes immediate effect. The statement clarified that Umunubo no longer represents the Tinubu administration in any capacity.

“Henceforth, anyone who interfaces with him in the name of President Tinubu’s administration does so at his or her own risk. All stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy are advised to take note,” the statement said.

Commentators say Umunubo’s removal comes amid ongoing efforts by the administration to streamline engagement with the digital and creative sectors, which have been identified as key drivers of economic growth. They note that the shake-up may signal a review of policies and initiatives in the sector under the Vice President’s office.

Experts add that the decision could have implications for partnerships, investments, and programs targeting Nigeria’s burgeoning digital and creative economy, a sector that has increasingly attracted local and foreign attention.
