Osun APC Executives Reject Tinubu Campaign Council List, Demand Review
Four members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) executive committee in Osun State have rejected the recently released list of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, demanding an immediate review of its composition.
The executives made their position known in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Wole Adunola; Welfare Officer, Adesola Ayangbile; Assistant Organising Secretary, Rasheed Adeniji; and state APC Ex-Officio, Abiola Ololade.
They expressed concern over the omission of several members of the State Working Committee, who they said should be statutory members of the campaign council under the party’s applicable guidelines.
They also faulted the composition of the council, describing it as inconsistent with an earlier presidential directive reportedly naming Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in the state.
According to the executives, the exclusion of recognised party officials raises concerns about consultation, due process and respect for the party’s established leadership structure.
“Following a careful review, we express our strong dissatisfaction with the composition of the list, which, in our view, does not adequately reflect established party guidelines, due process and the principle of inclusiveness required in constituting such an important campaign structure. We, therefore, reject the list in its present form,” the statement read.
They recalled that following the reported presidential directive, Adeleke had inaugurated a broad-based campaign team to coordinate Tinubu’s re-election campaign across the state.
The executives questioned why a different structure had emerged without adequate clarification or alignment with the existing arrangement.
They, however, suggested that the list would be more understandable if it was intended for a parliamentary campaign council rather than the presidential campaign council.
“This distinction must be clearly established to avoid confusion, duplication of responsibilities and unnecessary friction within the party’s campaign structure,” they stated.
The four executives insisted that the State Executive Committee remained an integral part of the APC’s organisational structure and should not be sidelined in the constitution of a state-wide campaign council.
They consequently called for an immediate review of the list, with consultations involving relevant stakeholders, including the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and the state Director-General.
They also urged the party leadership at both state and national levels to address their concerns promptly and make the necessary corrections.
“Our position is clear: we need a campaign council that respects party structures, recognises legitimate leadership, accommodates critical stakeholders and unites all members towards electoral victory.
“The task ahead demands unity, discipline, strategic coordination, and collective responsibility. No legitimate stakeholder should be left behind,” they added.
Despite their rejection of the list, the executives reaffirmed their commitment to the success of APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and the party’s overall interests.
The disagreement follows the recent unveiling of a 168-member presidential and parliamentary campaign council by the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Under the arrangement, the party’s governorship candidate in the August 8 election, Bola Oyebamiji, was named Director-General, while Lawal was appointed Deputy Director-General.
