Terrorists Abduct 14 Islamic School Students, Teacher In Niger

Suspected terrorists have abducted 14 students of an Islamic school and their teacher in Pandogari, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped on Saturday while harvesting maize on their teacher’s farm in Tungan-Bako village when the assailants invaded the area.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday, clarifying that 14 students were abducted, contrary to reports that put the number at 50.

The command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said a joint security team had commenced rescue operations to secure the release of the victims.

In a statement, Abiodun said, “On 31/10/2026 at about 12.30 pm, suspected bandits invaded Tungan-Bako village via Rafi LGA and abducted some persons working on the farm.

“The report further indicated that the abducted victims were about 14 students of an Islamiya helping their Mallam to harvest maize on the farm before the incident.

“However, joint security rescue efforts are ongoing; further developments will be communicated.”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Social Democratic Party governorship candidate, Jonathan Vatsa, condemned Governor Mohammed Bago over what he described as the state government’s poor handling of insecurity.

Vatsa accused the governor of focusing on electioneering activities instead of taking adequate steps to protect lives and property.

He also alleged that security agencies in the state lacked operational vehicles and other essential equipment needed to tackle the security challenges.

“The government is only there to issue statements either condemning every attack or condole with the people over the death of their loved ones without any cogent step to address the situation,” Vatsa said.

The abduction adds to growing security concerns in Niger State, as security agencies continue efforts to rescue the victims.
