Sowore Accuses Ekiti Government Aide of Leading Attack on Him
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused a Senior Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor of allegedly leading the thugs who attacked him in Ado-Ekiti.
Sowore, who made the allegation during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, claimed that the individual was a known political figure in the state and currently enjoys a government appointment.
According to him, the alleged ringleader was not an unknown individual, insisting that he had identified the suspect and possessed photographic evidence linking him to the incident.
“The guy that led my attack is on Ekiti govt payroll. He is not a hidden person. He is a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor. I have his name, I have his picture,” Sowore said.
The AAC chieftain alleged that the attack was politically motivated and intended to frustrate his efforts to mobilise young people in the state against the government.
He further claimed to have video and photographic evidence showing the alleged suspect at the scene directing those involved in the attack.
Sowore called on the Inspector-General of Police to immediately arrest and prosecute the individual, accusing security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), of failing to act on the matter.
“If the police are serious, they should go and arrest him today. He is in Government House, collecting salary from taxpayers’ money while leading thugs to beat citizens,” he added.
The former presidential candidate questioned the apparent inaction of security agencies, alleging that the suspect’s closeness to the state government had shielded him from investigation.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Government had yet to respond to the allegations.
