Omisore Explains Absence from Tinubu’s Campaign Council Inauguration

Senator Iyiola Omisore has attributed his absence from the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council to earlier professional engagements in the United States of America and Europe.

Director-General of the Rescue Mission Team, Engr. (Hon.) Ajibola Famurewa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026, saying the former Osun State deputy governor was engaged in strategic assignments involving the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg and longstanding associates in Bern, Switzerland.

According to Famurewa, Omisore had duly communicated his inability to attend the inaugural meeting to the appropriate authorities and the leadership of the council.

He explained that the senator’s engagement with the World Bank focused on subnational governance, fiscal sustainability and sustainable development financing models.

Famurewa said the assignment involved high-level consultations, peer reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions at the World Bank headquarters, with the objective of exploring technical assistance and development financing opportunities for subnational governments.

He added that the engagement was a continuation of Omisore’s previous involvement in World Bank-supported development projects, including the supervision of health projects in Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa states.

The Rescue Mission Team DG also stated that Omisore had undertaken research at the World Bank Institute, adding that his current assignment was designed to explore development frameworks that could benefit Osun State and Nigeria.

According to him, the areas of focus include infrastructure development, healthcare delivery and human capital development.

Famurewa further emphasised that Omisore’s role as an adviser to the presidential campaign was national in scope, expressing confidence in his ability to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“It is important to note that his role as Adviser is national. We, however, assure that he will deliver unprecedented votes for PBAT beyond the shores of Osun State,” the statement read.

Famurewa said the clarification became necessary following calls from stakeholders, supporters and other concerned individuals seeking explanations for Omisore’s absence from the campaign council’s inauguration.

He maintained that the senator’s absence was due to prior professional commitments rather than a lack of commitment to his role in the presidential campaign.

The statement, however, did not specify the duration of Omisore’s overseas engagements or indicate when he would return to participate in subsequent activities of the campaign council.
