The All Progressives Congress in Kano State suffered a setback on Saturday as several of its members defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.

The defectors were received by the NDC senatorial candidate for Kano South, Dr Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya, in Takai Local Government Area of the state.

The development is the latest in a series of defections from the ruling APC to the NDC in Kano since former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso emerged as the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The wave of defections has intensified political realignments in the state as parties position themselves for the 2027 polls.

However, there have also been reports of politicians leaving Kwankwaso’s camp for the APC, indicating that the political movement is not one-directional.

The competing defections have heightened political activity in Kano as the major parties intensify efforts to strengthen their structures and grassroots support ahead of the 2027 elections.
