Julián Alvarez Returns to Atletico Madrid Training After Illness

Julián Alvarez has returned to group training with his Atletico Madrid teammates after recovering from an illness that kept him out of training for several days.

The Argentina international rejoined the squad on Sunday following Atletico’s victory over Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Alvarez had initially missed two team training sessions due to illness before completing another two sessions individually as part of a personalised recovery programme.

His return comes with two days remaining before the summer transfer window closes, amid continued uncertainty over his future at the Spanish club.

The forward had not trained with his teammates since Atletico’s LaLiga meeting with Villarreal at the Metropolitano. He resumed individual training on Friday before returning to group work on Sunday.

His availability will be a boost for Atletico as the club prepares for its next LaLiga fixture against Athletic Club at San Mamés.

Atletico sporting director Mateu Alemany had earlier expressed his hope that Alvarez would return to training soon.

“We hope he rejoins quickly and is available for the next LaLiga match,” Alemany said.

Alvarez was among the players who participated in Sunday’s group session, while those who started against Sevilla carried out recovery work.

With the transfer window closing in two days, attention remains on whether Alvarez will stay at Atletico or make a late move elsewhere.

For now, his return to training provides a boost to Diego Simeone’s side ahead of the trip to San Mamés.
