The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has reversed its ban on Bolt and other e-hailing services operating at Nigerian airports following public backlash over high airport taxi fares.

FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, Henry Agbebire, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

The reversal followed controversy over the introduction of the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System, ACHRAM, and restrictions placed on e-hailing operators at FAAN-managed airports.

The controversy intensified after a viral video showed an airport passenger alleging that ACHRAM had pegged a car hire fare at N30,000 for a trip that would ordinarily cost about N8,000.

FAAN, however, clarified that ACHRAM was not an e-hailing platform like Bolt or Uber and was not intended to monopolise car-hiring services at airports.

The authority said it had engaged with Bolt to establish an acceptable operational framework for its services.

“The Authority is therefore pleased to announce that, following constructive engagements, FAAN and Bolt have reached an agreeable operational framework, and Bolt is cleared to commence its services at FAAN-managed airports immediately,” FAAN said.
