The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria’s history to serve for eight years without owning a personal house.

Aregbesola made the assertion while addressing his supporters in a video that surfaced online on Thursday.

According to the former governor, he lived in a friend’s house throughout his eight-year tenure in office.

“I’m the first governor in Nigeria to rule a state for eight years without owning a house of my own,” he said.

“I stayed in my friend’s house for eight years as a governor in my father’s land. Whoever says that what I’m saying is not true should come out and show me the house I own.”

Aregbesola served as governor of Osun State from 2010 to 2018 before his appointment as Minister of Interior under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

During his tenure as governor, he implemented policies focused on education, healthcare, poverty reduction, employment, peace and community development.
