The Borno State Government has appealed to parents not to allow insecurity to prevent their children from accessing education, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to improve safety in schools.

The appeal was made during the state’s education summit themed, “Strengthening Safe, Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Education: Building Back Borno Better.”

Executive Secretary of the Borno State Education Trust Fund, Grema Terab, said the summit reviewed progress and challenges in the education sector, with stakeholders recommending stronger security measures, including early warning systems and the deployment of Civilian Joint Task Force personnel to schools.

“Please send your children to school and support the government,” Terab urged.

Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Abba Wakilbe, said the state had made significant investments in teacher recruitment, training, infrastructure and curriculum development but warned that the recent wave of school attacks and abductions could reverse those gains if not addressed.

Also speaking, Executive Director of the Unique Care and Support Foundation, Benjamin John, described the resurgence of school abductions as a major threat to efforts aimed at reducing the number of out-of-school children, urging parents to continue enrolling their children while supporting government and partners working to secure schools.
