Alausa to present Tinubu administration’s education scorecard at Abuja summit

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, is expected to present the Federal Government’s three-year scorecard on education reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration at the 2026 Education Summit in Abuja.

The summit, organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria, will bring together policymakers, education experts, development partners and other stakeholders to assess progress, challenges and the future direction of Nigeria’s education sector.

The event, scheduled to hold on Wednesday at the Barcelona Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja, is themed: “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”

According to a statement issued on Monday by ECAN Chairman, Chux Ukwuatu, the summit will provide a platform for stakeholders to critically examine the impact of the administration’s education policies and discuss strategies for addressing ongoing challenges.

“The summit will bring together policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners and media professionals to assess the impact of the Tinubu administration’s education reforms and explore strategies for addressing the sector’s remaining challenges,” Ukwuatu said.

Alausa is expected to declare the summit open and lead discussions on the administration’s interventions since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

Participants are expected from government agencies, academic institutions, development organisations, school administrators, civil society groups, student bodies and the media.

The summit will also recognise individuals and institutions that have contributed to education development and human capital growth in Nigeria.

The meeting comes amid several reforms introduced by the Federal Government in the education sector, including the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to expand access to tertiary education, efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children, reforms in technical and vocational education, and curriculum reviews aimed at aligning learning with modern skills and labour market needs.

Other initiatives include nationwide learning assessments, digital education programmes, research support through agencies such as the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, and quality assurance reforms across basic, secondary and tertiary education levels.

The ECAN summit is expected to provide a broad stakeholder review of the government’s education agenda, highlighting achievements, implementation challenges and priorities for the next phase of reforms.
