World Cup 2026: Mbappé sets new scoring record as France reach quarter-finals

France captain Kylian Mbappé made history after scoring the winning goal in his country’s 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Real Madrid forward converted a penalty to send Les Bleus into the quarter-finals.

The goal was Mbappé’s 55th across all competitions for club and country during the 2025–26 season, surpassing his previous personal best of 54 goals recorded in the 2022–23 campaign.

According to Stats Foot, the feat makes the 27-year-old the French player with the most goals in a single season.

Mbappé will now look to inspire France to another victory when they face Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.
