Florence Ajimobi assumes duty as Nigeria’s ambassador to Austria

Mrs Florence Ajimobi has arrived in Vienna to officially assume office as Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and international organisations based in the Austrian capital.

Ajimobi announced her arrival in a Facebook post on Friday, stating that she was received at the VIP section of Vienna International Airport by the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Nigerian Embassy and Permanent Mission, Muyiwa Onifade, alongside embassy officials and members of the Nigerian community in Austria.

“Today, I arrived in Vienna to assume duty as the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Austria and the International Organisations in Vienna,” she wrote.

According to her, those who received her included home-based officers, local staff and representatives of several Nigerian community organisations, including the Oduduwa Group, Igbo Cultural Group, Nigeria-Austria Friendship Group, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, and Nigerian students resident in Austria.

Ajimobi expressed appreciation for the reception and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and Austria.

“I am deeply grateful for this heartfelt welcome and look forward to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Austria,” she said.

President Bola Tinubu, in November 2025, forwarded the names of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation. The list comprised 17 non-career ambassadors and 15 career diplomats nominated for postings to various countries and international organisations considered strategic to Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.
