World Cup 2026: Czechia coach Miroslav Koubek resigns after group-stage exit
7Czechia head coach Miroslav Koubek has become the third manager to resign following his country’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Czechs finished bottom of Group A with one point from three matches against South Korea, South Africa and Mexico, failing to progress to the Round of 32.
Koubek was appointed shortly before Czechia’s World Cup qualifying play-offs and guided the team to penalty shootout victories over the Republic of Ireland and Denmark, securing the country’s first World Cup appearance in 20 years.
The 74-year-old’s resignation follows those of Steve Clarke, who stepped down as Scotland manager after his side’s elimination, and Hong Myung-bo, who resigned as South Korea coach after the team’s group-stage exit.
