The Kwara State Government has banned all public and private schools from organising graduation, valedictory and other end-of-session ceremonies across the state, citing security concerns.

The directive was contained in a letter signed by a Director in the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Bunmi Osanupin, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe.

The letter, addressed to the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Raheem Adaramaja, was made available to journalists in Ilorin on Friday.

According to the ministry, the decision was taken in view of the prevailing security situation and the need to ensure safety, order and decorum in schools across the state.

The government directed all school proprietors, principals, headteachers and administrators to comply fully with the directive.

“All school proprietors, principals, headteachers and administrators are required to ensure strict compliance with this directive.

“Any school found to be in violation of this directive shall be liable to appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.

“By this notice, all concerned are advised to be guided accordingly,” the letter stated.
