LaLiga: Pepe Set for Real Madrid Return as Mourinho Takes Over
Former Portugal captain Pepe is set to return to Real Madrid as part of Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff, according to reports.
Mourinho is expected to be officially unveiled as Real Madrid’s new manager following Florentino Pérez’s re-election as club president. Reports suggest a prior agreement had already been reached with Benfica before the election outcome was confirmed.
The 63-year-old coach will reportedly be joined by Pepe in his technical team at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Spanish outlet Marca reports that Pepe’s role will focus on improving the team’s defensive structure and mentality, fostering unity in the dressing room, and serving as a communication bridge between Mourinho and the players.
Pepe, who played for Real Madrid between 2007 and 2017, retired from professional football in 2024 after a distinguished career.
