The youth forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has rejected the outcome of the party’s governorship primary election, describing it as unfair and lacking in transparency.

In a statement signed by its convener, Comrade Ayuba Bako Marufudeen, the group said the exercise left many party members “deeply disappointed, shocked and disillusioned.”

It alleged that the primary, which should have reflected democratic principles, was instead characterised by “imposition, predetermined arrangements and suppression of the genuine will of party members.”

The forum said it could not accept the outcome, insisting that it does not reflect the wishes of APC members across the state.

“As youths who have worked tirelessly for the growth, stability, and electoral successes of the APC across all wards and local governments in Kwara State, we categorically reject the outcome of the governorship primary and refuse to accept the announced candidate as the true reflection of the wishes and aspirations of APC members in the state,” the statement read.

The group stressed that democracy must be rooted in fairness, transparency and participation, warning that internal manipulation could threaten the unity and strength of the party.

It also accused party leaders of sidelining popular aspirants through what it described as a flawed process, saying such actions could weaken grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The youth forum specifically threw its weight behind Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari, describing him as the most widely accepted aspirant.

“Ambassador Yahaya Seriki has over the years built enduring relationships across every part of Kwara State through his humility, generosity, humanitarian interventions, grassroots mobilisation, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people,” it stated.

The group urged the national leadership of the APC to intervene and review the outcome of the primary election in the interest of fairness and party unity.

It warned that failure to address the grievances could deepen divisions within the party and weaken its electoral chances in the state.

“The APC must decide whether it stands for democracy, fairness, and popular participation, or whether it will surrender the future of the party to personal interests and political imposition,” the statement added.

The forum, however, reaffirmed its commitment to the unity and success of the party, saying internal justice is essential for lasting cohesion.
