Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Cotonou, Benin Republic, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of President-elect Romuald Wadagni.

The Vice President is expected to join other African and global leaders at the ceremony scheduled for Sunday at the Presidential Palace in Cotonou.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).

Nkwocha said Shettima’s visit underscores the strong diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

He noted that both countries share deep historical, socio-cultural and economic ties, with cooperation spanning border security, trade and energy.

“The Vice President will join other leaders across Africa and beyond at the event scheduled to take place at the Presidential Palace in Cotonou on Sunday, May 24,” the statement said.

He added that Shettima is being accompanied by senior government officials and aides, and is expected to return to Nigeria after the engagement.
