PDP Settles for Kale Kawu as Consensus Candidate for Kwara 2027

The crisis rocking the build-up to the 2027 governorship race in Kwara State appeared to ease on Saturday as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, adopted Engr. Kale Kawu as its consensus governorship candidate.

The decision was announced by former Senate President Bukola Saraki following consultations with party stakeholders and governorship aspirants across the state.

Saraki said the agreement was reached after extensive deliberations aimed at strengthening unity within the party and positioning the PDP for victory in the next governorship election.

According to him, the party remains determined to reclaim power in Kwara State and present a formidable front ahead of the 2027 polls.

He commended aspirants who agreed to step down for the consensus arrangement, describing their decision as a sacrifice made in the overall interest of the party.

The former Kwara governor said the action reflected loyalty, maturity, and commitment to the PDP’s collective aspiration of returning to power in the state.

Saraki also appealed to party members, delegates, and supporters to remain calm and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the gubernatorial primary process.

Engr. Kale Kawu is expected to lead the PDP into what observers predict could become one of the most closely contested governorship elections in the state’s recent political history.
