The Federal Government has expressed condolences to the Government and people of China following a deadly explosion at a fireworks factory in Hunan Province that left dozens dead and several others injured.

The blast, which occurred on Monday at the Huasheng Fireworks plant in Liuyang City, reportedly claimed at least 26 lives and injured 61 others, according to Chinese state media.

Chinese authorities said rescue operations have been concluded after emergency teams searched the debris for survivors. At least seven people were rescued with the aid of drones, sniffer dogs, and robotic equipment.

In response to the incident, residents within a three-kilometre radius were evacuated, while over 1,500 emergency personnel were deployed to manage the aftermath.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria conveyed its sympathy to the Chinese government and affected families.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria extends heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China following the tragic explosion,” the statement read.
