A member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing lingering internal crises, protracted legal disputes, and leadership uncertainty within the party.

Abejide, who represents Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, announced his resignation on Friday while briefing journalists at his Abuja residence.

Though he did not formally declare his next political platform, indications suggest he may soon pitch his tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Describing his exit as painful but inevitable, the lawmaker said the decision became necessary to protect his political future from what he termed destabilising forces within the party.

He traced the genesis of the crisis to a suit he instituted in 2025 against key figures in the ADC leadership, including David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola and Ralph Nwosu.

According to him, despite securing accelerated hearing from the court, the defendants allegedly employed delay tactics by introducing multiple parties into the suit, thereby stalling proceedings until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the timetable for the 2027 general elections.

He said the prolonged delays prompted his legal team to advise him to consider an alternative political platform.

Abejide further cited leadership vacuum within the ADC, noting the absence of duly recognised national officers to endorse nomination forms, a requirement for contesting elections.

He also alleged that the party had been hijacked by external interests, undermining its original ideals.

On his political future, the lawmaker hinted at aligning with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, signaling a possible move to the APC.

Addressing a viral video involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Abejide dismissed insinuations that he was encouraged to destabilise the ADC, describing the remarks as taken out of context and made in a light-hearted manner.

He maintained that his decision to quit the party was driven solely by internal challenges and the need to secure his political future.
