The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has fixed May 26, 2026, for the conduct of its primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party said the exercise will cover all elective positions, including State Houses of Assembly, governorship seats, National Assembly and the presidency.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed that the party would adopt a consensus method for candidate selection across its wards nationwide.

He added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already been notified of the timetable.

Johnson also revealed that INEC recently concluded a verification exercise of the party’s structures at its national secretariat, describing the process as a validation of the current leadership under the National Working Committee (NWC).

“The seamless execution of this exercise serves as a definitive official validation of the Hon. Bala Mohammed-led NWC and reaffirms our standing as the only recognised leadership of the NNPP,” he said.

The spokesperson dismissed claims by expelled members challenging the authority of the party leadership, accusing them of attempting to mislead the courts.

“There is a subsisting judgment from the Federal High Court, Abuja, which clearly affirmed that these individuals are no longer members of the NNPP,” he stated.

Johnson expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would ultimately resolve the lingering leadership dispute in favour of the current NWC.

He also urged Nigerians, particularly youths and professionals, to participate in the party’s ongoing membership registration across the country’s 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas.
