APP remains Imo’s biggest opposition party — Ugochinyere
A member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, has described the Action People’s Party (APP) as the leading opposition force in Imo State.
Speaking on Saturday during the inauguration of newly elected ward and local government executives in Akokwa, Ideato North, Ugochinyere said the party has maintained a strong grassroots presence while holding the ruling party accountable.
“In Imo, no other party offers strong opposition apart from the Action People’s Party. The party has the strongest structure from ward to local government to the state,” he said.
He added that the APP has continued to attract support across the state, attributing its growth to what he described as its principles of equity, fairness, and inclusiveness.
According to him, the party currently has the second-largest representation in the National Assembly from Imo State, after the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“Of the 10 federal constituencies in Imo, APP has two representatives. It is a milestone for us, and we are going to capture more constituencies,” he said.
Ugochinyere also highlighted the party’s legislative and constituency achievements, noting that its projects span water supply, sanitation, community outreach and empowerment initiatives.
“All our projects will take one month to commission because they are many. We are going to showcase them so that people will know they are ours,” he added.
He urged newly inaugurated party executives to deepen grassroots mobilisation and expand the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that underperforming leaders would be replaced.
