Tinubu seeks Senate approval for minister-designate, CBN deputy governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the confirmation of new appointees for key federal positions, including a minister-designate and a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The request was read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and subsequently referred to relevant committees for screening.

Tinubu nominated Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development. The nomination was referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration.

Darma, a Mechanical Engineering graduate of Bayero University Kano, previously served as deputy governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in 2023 before his removal from the party following political disagreements.

In a separate request, the President also nominated Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the CBN. Yuguda, a former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, spent over three decades at the central bank.

The Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions was directed to review the nomination and report back within one week.

Similarly, Tinubu forwarded the nomination of Benedict Umeno for reappointment to the Code of Conduct Bureau, representing the South-East, with the matter referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption for further legislative consideration.
